Plugins

JEM plugins extend how JEM integrates with Joomla content, Smart Search, notifications, comments, and the administrator dashboard. They are installed with the full JEM package and can be enabled or disabled depending on the features your site uses.

Only enable the plugins that are needed for your site. Some plugins require additional configuration or depend on Joomla features such as Smart Search.

Available JEM Plugins

JEM 5.0.0 includes the following official plugins:

Enable or Disable JEM Plugins

JEM plugins are managed through the Joomla plugin manager.

  1. Log in to the Joomla administrator area.
  2. Go to System → Manage → Plugins.
  3. Search for JEM.
  4. Open the plugin you want to configure.
  5. Review the plugin options.
  6. Enable or disable the plugin as needed.
  7. Save the plugin.
  8. Clear Joomla cache if the change is not visible immediately.
Do not disable a plugin that your site depends on without testing first. For example, disabling the Mailer plugin may stop JEM notification emails, and disabling the Finder plugin may remove JEM content from Smart Search results after reindexing.

Content Plugins

Content plugins are used inside Joomla article content or other content areas where Joomla content plugins are processed.

  • Content List Events Plugin: displays JEM event lists in content, with options for event type, featured state, title, date, time, category, venue, maximum number of events, and custom no-events message.
  • Embed Plugin: embeds JEM-related output in content and can require configured API tokens when token protection is enabled.
Content plugin tags are processed only where Joomla content plugins are enabled. If a tag is displayed as plain text, check the editor, content filters, and whether plugins are processed in that context.

Search Plugin

The JEM Smart Search plugin integrates JEM content with Joomla Smart Search. Enable it when you want events or related JEM content to be included in the site's search index.

  1. Enable the JEM Smart Search plugin.
  2. Go to the Joomla Smart Search indexer.
  3. Rebuild or update the search index.
  4. Test frontend search results.

JEM Group Plugins

Plugins in the jem group extend JEM-specific behavior.

  • Comments Plugin: connects supported comment systems to JEM. In JEM 5.0.0 the plugin includes an option for no comments or JComments integration.
  • Mailer Plugin: manages notification profiles for registration, cancellation, event, and venue actions.
Email delivery also depends on Joomla's global mail configuration. If JEM notifications are not sent, check both the JEM Mailer plugin settings and Joomla's mail settings.

Quick Icon Plugin

The JEM Quick Icon plugin adds a shortcut in the Joomla administrator dashboard. It is useful for administrators who need quick access to JEM or to creating events.

After Updating JEM

After updating JEM, review plugin status and configuration. New JEM versions can add plugin options or change how notifications, search indexing, or content output work.

  • Check that required JEM plugins are still enabled.
  • Review plugin options after major updates.
  • Rebuild the Smart Search index if search output changes.
  • Test mail notifications if the site uses event registrations or frontend submissions.
  • Test content plugin output in articles that use JEM tags.

Troubleshooting

A plugin is installed but does not work

  • Check that the plugin is enabled.
  • Check that the plugin belongs to the expected group.
  • Review the plugin options.
  • Clear Joomla cache.
  • Check whether the feature also depends on Joomla settings, such as Smart Search or mail configuration.

Content plugin tags are shown as plain text

  • Check that the relevant JEM content plugin is enabled.
  • Check that content plugins are processed in that article or module context.
  • Check that the tag syntax is correct.
  • Check editor or text filter settings if the tag is changed after saving.

JEM content does not appear in search results

  • Enable the JEM Smart Search plugin.
  • Rebuild the Joomla Smart Search index.
  • Check event publication state, access level, category state, and language.

Notification emails are not sent

  • Check the JEM Mailer plugin settings.
  • Check Joomla's global mail configuration.
  • Check whether the relevant notification profile is enabled.
  • Check spam folders and server mail logs if available.
