JEM modules display event and venue information in Joomla module positions. They are useful for showing upcoming events, compact calendars, maps, featured event blocks, banners, and event or venue type summaries outside the main component area.
JEM modules are installed with the full JEM package, but they must be configured and published in Joomla before they appear on the frontend.
Available JEM Modules
JEM 5.0.0 includes the following official site modules:

Create and Publish a JEM Module
JEM modules are managed like other Joomla site modules.
- Log in to the Joomla administrator area.
- Go to Content → Site Modules.
- Click New.
- Select the JEM module type you want to use.
- Enter a module title.
- Choose a template position.
- Configure the JEM module options.
- Set the menu assignment.
- Publish the module.
- Save and check the frontend.
If a module is published but does not appear, check the template position, menu assignment, access level, language, publication dates, and whether the selected events or venues are visible to the user.
Event List Modules
The Basic, Wide, Teaser, and Banner modules display event lists in different styles. Use the module that best matches the amount of information and visual emphasis needed in the template position.
- Basic Module: best for compact lists in sidebars or small module positions.
- Wide Module: best for wider positions where event details need more room.
- Teaser Module: best for visual event highlights with images and short descriptions.
- Banner Module: best for promotional event blocks or banner-style layouts.
These modules can usually filter or limit output by event status, number of events, categories, venues, dates, featured state, and display options such as title, venue, category, image, date, and links.
Calendar and Map Modules
The Calendar and Venues Map modules provide more visual navigation.
- Calendar Module: shows events in a compact calendar, with options for tooltips, current events, archived events, category limits, venue limits, and AJAX navigation.
- Venues Map Module: shows venue or event-location data on a map, with options for map provider, zoom, center, date filters, category filters, country filters, directions links, and markers.
Map output depends on accurate venue address or coordinate data and on the selected map provider being available for your site configuration.
Special Purpose Modules
The Jubilee and Types modules cover more specific display needs.
- Jubilee Module: useful for anniversary-style event selections or date-match displays.
- Types Module: useful when the site uses event types or venue types to organize content.
Common Module Options
Each JEM module has its own settings, but many modules share common configuration ideas:
- Event selection: upcoming, unfinished, current, archived, featured, or open-date events, depending on the module.
- Limit: control how many events or items are displayed.
- Category and venue filters: restrict output to specific categories or venues.
- Display options: show or hide title, date, time, category, venue, image, description, and links.
- Date and time formats: adjust how dates and times are shown.
- Layout: choose the module layout where alternative layouts are available.
- Module class suffix: add a custom class for template styling.
- Caching: use Joomla module caching where appropriate.
Module Visibility
A JEM module can be correctly configured but still not visible because of Joomla module settings. Check these items when troubleshooting:
- The module is published.
- The module is assigned to a visible template position.
- The module is assigned to the correct menu items.
- The access level allows the current user to see it.
- The language setting matches the current site language.
- The selected events, categories, and venues are published and visible.
- Joomla cache has been cleared after changing settings.
