Associated Articles and Multilingual Event Content

New Event Content Article

Defines what JEM should do when a new article is created for an event that uses the article as event content.

Options:

  • Copy event description into article
    JEM copies the current event description into the newly created Joomla article.
  • Create empty article and show edit notice
    JEM creates the article empty and informs the user that it should be edited.
  • Create empty article and open editor
    JEM creates the article and opens the Joomla article editor so the user can add the content immediately.
This is useful when a category is configured to automatically create associated articles.

Show More Information

Controls whether the associated article is shown on the event page as additional information.

Options:

  • No
  • Yes (link)
  • Yes (button)
This applies when the event uses the associated article as additional information, not as the main event content.

More Information Text

Defines the text used for the "More information" link or button.
If empty, JEM uses the default language string.

Associated Article Date

Controls whether JEM should set the event start date on automatically created Joomla articles.

Options:

  • Do not set event date
  • Use event start date
If disabled, Joomla keeps its normal article creation date.

Recurring Event Articles

Controls how associated articles are handled for recurring events.

Options:

  • Create article only for the first event
  • Share the first article with the series
  • Create one article for each occurrence
This allows administrators to decide whether a recurring series should reuse one shared article or have separate articles per generated event.

Event Content Article Fields

The following options only apply when an event uses its associated Joomla article as the event content source.
They define which parts of the event are replaced by the resolved Joomla article.

  • Use Article Title
    When enabled, the Joomla article title replaces the visible JEM event title.
    This is especially useful for multilingual sites, because each associated Joomla article can have its own translated title.
  • Use Article Alias
    When enabled, the Joomla article alias is used as the event route alias.
    Example:
    - English article alias: summer-concert
    - Spanish article alias: concierto-de-verano
    The event remains the same JEM event, but the URL can use the article alias for the current language.
  • Use Article Intro Text
    When enabled, the Joomla article intro text replaces the JEM event intro text.
  • Use Article Full Text
    When enabled, the Joomla article full text replaces the JEM event full text.
  • Use Article Metadata
    When enabled, the Joomla article metadata is used for the event page.
    This can include meta description, meta keywords, and other Joomla article metadata.

Missing Language Fallback

This option controls what JEM should display when an event uses the associated article as event content, but no valid article exists for the current language.

Options:

  • Show no article content
    JEM leaves the article-driven fields empty.
    For example, if title, intro text, full text, and metadata are configured to come from the article, those fields are cleared when no valid article is found for the current language.
  • Use Joomla default-language article
    JEM first tries to find an associated article for the current language.
    If none is available, JEM falls back to the Joomla default site language article.
    If an article is assigned to All languages, it can also be used for any language.
    This is the default behaviour and is usually the safest option for multilingual sites.
  • Use JEM event content
    JEM keeps the original content stored in the JEM event when no valid article exists for the current language.
    This is useful when the event content in JEM should act as the fallback text.

Multilingual Example

Imagine a site with English as the default language and Spanish enabled.
A JEM event has one associated Joomla article:

  • Article 3017: English, title New Event in English
  • Article 3018: Spanish, title Nuevo evento en español

The event is configured with:

  • Associated article usage: Event content
  • Use article title: Yes
  • Use article intro text: Yes
  • Use article full text: Yes
  • Missing language fallback: Use Joomla default-language article

Behaviour:

  • When a visitor views the event in English, JEM shows the English article content.
  • When a visitor switches to Spanish, JEM keeps the same JEM event but displays the Spanish associated article content.
  • If the Spanish article is unpublished, missing, or not accessible, JEM falls back to the English article because English is the Joomla default language.
  • If the fallback option is changed to Use JEM event content, then JEM would show the original event description instead.
  • If the fallback option is changed to Show no article content, then the configured article-driven fields would be empty until a valid Spanish article is available.

Important Notes

The event remains the same JEM event. The associated Joomla article only provides content.
This means:

  • Registrations remain attached to the same event;
  • Dates, venue, categories, contacts, and event-specific JEM data remain managed by JEM;
  • Joomla article associations can be used for multilingual title and description content;
  • Existing events can continue using normal JEM content without change.

Administrators can enable this per event by choosing whether the associated article is used as additional information or as the event content source.
