Event page

Configure the single-event page: its summary and image layout, timezone, event facts, contacts, associated Joomla articles, venue information, registration, attendee visibility, online meetings and external links.

Event Page contains global defaults. An event, menu item or supported layout can override individual display values. Joomla access levels and JEM permissions always remain authoritative.
Version notice: JEM 5.0.1 is the current stable version. JEM 5.0.2 Beta 1 adds configurable event-timezone display. JEM 5.1.0 Beta 4 also integrates age access, advanced image profiles, category-aware custom fields and venue Space/Layout information.

Navigation and Access

In the Joomla administrator, select Components → JEM → Settings → Event Page.

Opening or saving Settings requires the applicable Joomla/JEM core.options permission. Saving validates the complete Settings form, not only the currently visible tab.

Event Layout
event_details_layout		 Structured details Structured details presents labelled event facts. Compact summary uses a denser presentation. Verify optional and long values in both modes.
Show event timezone
event_show_timezone		 Show Shows the effective event timezone on Event Detail when the event has a start time. This controls presentation only; calculations, structured data and calendar exports are unchanged. Available in JEM 5.0.2 Beta 1 and JEM 5.1.0 Beta 4.
Default detail image layout
event_detail_image_layout		 Right of event details Places the effective event image to the Right, in a Header, as a Poster/vertical block, or hides it. An event-specific selection can override the global value.
Header image display
event_detail_image_header_display		 Fill header width Fill fills the available header and can crop the visible area. Show full image preserves the complete image and does not upscale beyond its real size.
Header image max height
event_detail_image_header_max_height		 420 px Range 0–2000 in steps of 10. In Full mode it is a maximum rather than a fixed height. Use 0 for no maximum. It matters when the effective image layout is Header.
Display Event Title
event_show_detailstitle		 Yes Shows the event title inside the event page. The Joomla page heading can still be controlled separately by the menu item and template.
Display Event Description
event_show_description		 Yes Shows the JEM description or the resolved associated-article content when the event uses an article as its content source.
Show Publish State
event_show_publish_state		 No Shows the event publication state only to users with applicable edit or publish permission. It is an editorial indicator, not public access control.
Event custom fields position
event_custom_fields_position		 Details block Places visible event custom fields in Details, Before description, After description or After links. Field availability and visibility remain controlled by Custom Fields settings and the event's categories.
Show date in browser title
show_date_in_title		 No Adds start/end date information after the event name in the browser document title. This is useful for recurring event names, but title length and SEO output should be checked.

Timezone Display Behaviour

Global

Event Page setting

Defines whether the effective timezone is shown by default.

Event

Per-event override

An event can inherit the global setting, explicitly show the timezone or explicitly hide it.

Output

Timed events only

The timezone row is omitted when the event has no start time.

Display and calculation are independent. Hiding the timezone label does not change the event's effective timezone, UTC values, structured data, iCal export or date calculations.

event_show_hits		 No Shows the event-detail hit counter. Caching and automated requests can affect its interpretation.

event_show_availability		 No Shows ticket or booking availability text. Structured event data can still include availability when this visible label is hidden.

event_show_print_icon		 No Shows the browser print action. This is separate from JEM's native PDF output.

JEM displays its normal event content and provides a link or button to an associated Joomla article.

Article as event content

The event uses selected article fields as its title, text, metadata or image.

Article creation

Each JEM category decides whether creation is disabled, on demand or automatic and selects the destination Joomla category.

Use Associated Articles enables the global capability. It does not create an article by itself. The selected JEM category, event action, destination Joomla category and the editor's Joomla core.create permission must also allow creation.

Missing language fallback

JEM 5.1.0 Beta 4 interface note: the global Show Space and Layout value exists and defaults to Yes, but the current Event Page template does not yet render its selector. An Event menu item can still inherit or override this value. This interface omission should be corrected separately.

Map Service Comparison

Map output requires a usable venue address or coordinates. The venue timezone is independent of map display but can become the effective event timezone when the event uses Venue time reference.

JEM 5.1.0 Beta 4 Integration

The following features affect Event Detail in JEM 5.1.0 Beta 4 but are mainly configured in other Settings tabs or editing screens.

Event Image Profiles

Image processing, dimensions and ratios are configured under Settings → Images.

  • Event intro/list and full/detail images have independent profiles.
  • Event Detail uses the full image when available.
  • The intro image is used as fallback when no full image exists.
  • Placement remains controlled by Event Page and the event override.

Category-aware Custom Fields

Categories can contribute selected JEM fields, Joomla event fields and Joomla field groups.

  • Only fields active for the event's categories are displayed.
  • Fields without values are omitted from Event Detail.
  • Named Joomla field groups are displayed as compact grouped blocks.
  • The complete output follows Event custom fields position.

Age Access

Age classifications are configured under Settings → Age Access.

  • No badge or age row is displayed when no classification is assigned.
  • A configured badge appears over the event image or inline when the image is hidden.
  • The event facts show the classification title and age range.
  • Registered-user access can be checked against the configured date-of-birth source.

Venue Space and Layout

Advanced venues can supply an immutable configuration snapshot to the event.

  • Assigned Space and Layout information can be shown publicly.
  • Public capacity areas can appear in the event programme.
  • The same visibility policy is used by PDF and calendar exports.
  • A menu item can override the global Show Space and Layout value.

Practical Examples

  1. Choose Structured details and place the image in the header or to the right.
  2. Show title, description, categories and the Venue block.
  3. Show the timezone when visitors may attend from another region.
  4. Use OpenStreetMap when a key-free embedded map is preferred.
  5. Show only the public contact fields genuinely required.
  6. Verify the page as Guest on desktop and mobile.

  1. Enable Associated Articles and configure the JEM category's Joomla destination.
  2. Set the event's article usage to Content.
  3. Enable only the article fields that should replace JEM values.
  4. Use {lang} in the article title when the language should be identifiable.
  5. Select a missing-language fallback appropriate for the editorial policy.
  6. Test the event in every active language.

  1. Restrict the event using the appropriate Joomla access level.
  2. Enable Online Meeting and both ICS meeting options.
  3. Show the event timezone for attendees in other regions.
  4. Use HTTPS-only link schemes if mailto and tel are unnecessary.
  5. Download the ICS as an authorized user and test several calendar clients.
  6. Confirm unauthorized users cannot access the event, PDF, ICS or meeting URL.

  1. Show Registration and counters only when capacity information is public.
  2. Set attendee names to Nobody unless names are operationally required.
  3. Keep Show all related users disabled for public-oriented workflows.
  4. Apply an Age Access level only when the event has a real age restriction.
  5. Test direct Event, iCal, PDF and registration URLs with all relevant roles.

  1. Assign selected JEM fields and Joomla field groups to the event category.
  2. Set Event custom fields position to Details block.
  3. Complete values such as audience, course level and external information.
  4. Leave optional fields empty to verify that empty rows and empty groups are omitted.
  5. Test the result in both structured and compact event layouts.

Troubleshooting

SymptomWhat to check
An Event Page setting has no visible effect Check event attributes, menu options, responsive or legacy layout, associated-article content and template overrides. Clear Joomla and browser caches.
The timezone does not appear Confirm that the event has a start time, the global setting is Show and the event override is Global or Show.
The event image is cropped Header Fill intentionally fills the area. Use Show full image, reduce the maximum height or choose Right or Poster. In JEM 5.1, also review the active image profile.
Custom fields are missing Check the event's categories, the category field selection, Joomla field context, stored value, frontend visibility and Event custom fields position.
An associated article is not created Confirm global enablement, JEM category article mode, destination Joomla category, event action and the editor's Joomla core.create permission.
Article changes are not reflected in the event Confirm that the event uses the article as Content, that the individual article field is enabled and that the article is accessible in the active language.
Event changes are not synchronized to the article Check When event content changes. Ask requires completing the post-save action; Do not update intentionally leaves the article unchanged.
The map is empty Verify venue coordinates or address, selected provider, API key for Google API mode and the active venue layout.
Space or Layout information is missing Confirm that the event has a venue snapshot, Space, Layout or public Capacity Area assigned and that the menu override does not hide venue configuration.
Attendee names are visible to the wrong audience Review the attendee implementation table and test every real user role. Use Nobody while the intended audience cannot be demonstrated safely.
The meeting link is absent from a calendar Enable ICS meeting export and the description fallback. Some clients ignore the CONFERENCE property.
A hidden meeting URL is still exposed Check ICS, PDF, email, associated article and other integrations. Frontend display and export options are independent.
The age badge or age row is missing Confirm that a published Age Access level is assigned to the event or inherited from its venue. Unclassified events intentionally show no age information.

Saving and Verification

  1. Select Save and review validation or permission warnings from every Settings tab.
  2. Test events with and without time, venue, registration, contact, image, categories, custom fields and associated article.
  3. Test Guest, logged-in non-attendee, attendee, JEM maintainer, editor and administrator roles.
  4. Test responsive and legacy layouts when the site supports both.
  5. Download iCal and PDF output and inspect print and email actions.
  6. Test every active language.
  7. Record non-default, privacy-sensitive and security-sensitive settings.

Technical Notes

  • JEM 5.0.2 Beta 1 and JEM 5.1.0 Beta 4 render 67 editable Event Page controls across Event, Associated Articles, Venue, Registration and Event Links sections.
  • JEM 5.0.1 renders 66 controls because it does not contain the event-timezone display option.
  • JEM 5.1.0 defines an additional global Show Space and Layout field, although the current Beta 4 Event Page template does not render that selector.
  • Global values are stored in JEM's global attributes and are overridden only where a record, menu item or layout provides the corresponding option.
  • The effective event timezone can come from Joomla, the assigned venue or an explicit event timezone.
  • Associated article creation uses the JEM category's Joomla Content category mapping and validates Joomla create permission.
  • Article-as-content fields are applied only when the event's article usage is Content.
  • Recurring child articles are created or assigned only when the generated child does not already have an article.
  • Online meeting frontend display, ICS CONFERENCE and ICS description fallback are separate controls.
  • Availability can remain in structured event data when its visible label is hidden.
  • Attendee ordering is not access control and is evaluated only after audience authorization.
