Backend

The backend documentation explains the JEM administrator area in Joomla. These pages are intended for site administrators and event managers who configure JEM, manage event data, review registrations, and maintain the component.

Backend access depends on Joomla permissions. Users only see the JEM administrator actions that their user group is allowed to access.

Backend Sections

The JEM backend is organized around event management, venue management, configuration, user groups, event types, attachments, and maintenance tools.

Control Panel	Open the JEM dashboard, maintenance tools, sample data, imports, exports, update checks, and helper pages.
Events	Create, edit, publish, archive, copy, and manage events and event registrations.
Venues	Create and manage venues, addresses, geodata, venue descriptions, images, and related information.
Categories	Organize events into categories and configure category-specific access or display behavior.
Settings	Configure global JEM behavior, layouts, frontend editing, event pages, venue pages, maps, update checks, and permissions-related options.
Groups	Manage JEM groups used for frontend event and venue submission workflows.
Types	Manage event types and venue types when the site uses type-based organization.
Attachments	Manage files attached to events or venues, such as flyers, maps, documents, or information sheets.

Control Panel

The control panel is the main entry point for the JEM backend. It gives access to common management and maintenance actions.

Load sampledata: add sample data for testing or learning JEM.
Help: open JEM help information.
Manage plugins: review JEM-related plugins.
Statistics: view JEM content statistics.
Housekeeping: clean or maintain stored JEM data.
Check update: check update information for JEM.
Export Data: export JEM data.
Import data: import JEM data.
CSS manager: review or edit JEM CSS files when enabled.

Events and Registrations

Event management is the core of JEM. Administrators can create events, assign categories and venues, configure recurrence, manage publication state, and review registrations when bookings are enabled.

Events: manage the event list.
Add event: create or edit event details.
Registered Users: review users registered for an event.

Venues and Categories

Venues describe where events take place, while categories organize events into the structure used by the site. Both are important for frontend display, filtering, permissions, and menu item behavior.

Venues: manage the venue list.
Add venue: create or edit venue details.
Categories: manage event categories.
Add category: create or edit category details.

Settings

JEM settings control how events, venues, maps, registrations, layouts, frontend editing, update checks, and other component behavior work across the site.

Review settings after a major update or upgrade. New JEM versions may add options or change how some frontend and backend workflows are configured.

Groups, Types, and Attachments

These sections support more advanced event-management workflows.

Groups: configure JEM groups used in frontend submission workflows.
Add group: create or edit a JEM group.
Types: manage event and venue types.

Administrator Workflow

A typical JEM backend setup starts with configuration, then moves to content structure and event data.

Review Settings.
Create event Categories.
Create Venues if events use venue information.
Create optional Types if the site uses event or venue types.
Create Events and assign categories and venues.
Configure registration options if bookings are used.
Create frontend Joomla menu items for the JEM views visitors should use.
Publish JEM modules and enable JEM plugins only where needed.
