Irregular Repeats

I don't know if this is the correct place to post, only arrived here today and the extension is doing all I want it to and in a few days I'll probably get everything in the correct places. 

But one thing I can't figure out yet is the repeating events. I understand how it currently works but a useful feature would be for irregular repeats, not every week or month etc. but this month it might be on the 8th and next month on the 15th, it might start at 6pm and then at 7pm next time.

Same person at the same venue on irregular dates and times, if I've explained it correctly?

The way I see it working is to set up an event and in the repeating section click irregular and the calendar and time choices appear.

Is this possible? Please. 🤞
 

The best way for now is to create first event and then use save as copy. change data/time for each copy. 


At the moment, JEM recurrence is based on regular patterns such as daily,
weekly, monthly or yearly. The requested situation is slightly different:
it is a series of related events on manually selected dates and possibly
with a different start time for each occurrence.

I would not recommend creating a monthly recurrence and then editing every
generated occurrence, because editing recurring events can affect or break
the recurrence set.

For a future JEM version, a “Custom dates” or “Irregular dates” option would
be useful. Selecting it could show a list such as:

8 August 2026      18:00–20:00
15 September 2026 19:00–21:00
3 October 2026    18:30–20:30

with an “Add another date” button.

Technically, JEM could create normal individual event records for
these dates and link them with a shared series ID. This would keep
registration, cancellation, calendar display and editing available for each
individual occurrence.

So the concept would be closer to “batch-create related events” than to a
new recurrence calculation rule.

Support for irregular repetitions has now been implemented as a new Custom dates option. It will be included in JEM 5.0.1 Beta 2, which will be released soon.

Instead of forcing the dates into a daily, weekly or monthly recurrence rule, an authorised user can define a finite list of individual dates and times in both the backend and frontend event editors.

Each occurrence is stored as a normal JEM event, so it keeps its own event ID, publication status, registrations, capacity, waiting list and cancellation status.

When editing an existing custom series, JEM provides three explicit scopes:
Update only the current occurrence.
Update the dates and times of the series.
Update the shared information and schedule for all occurrences.

The existing daily, weekly, monthly and yearly recurrence options remain unchanged.

I read the github submission and you seem to have covered everything, an absolutely comprehensive document and implementation of what I *thought* would be reasonably easy looks like a piece of art.

I have had chance to look through the Beta version on a clean install development domain.
Joomla 6.1.2, Jem Beta 2.and PhP 8.4.24

Not sure if I should add more data but it isn't saving the irregular dates to the events list... I'll try to explain with screenshots.

I put in a venue and an event with an irregular (custom) repeat.  prnt.sc/f_p-Wen46AB9
Only the original entry appeared on the backend events list.

I went back to the pre-beta method of Save and Copy and it's there of course.  prnt.sc/EH5yZFu_mUeh
I tried to edit that second entry for irregular repeats and it was still not accepting it.

Then I chose the Regular Repeats option for last day of month until November and that worked fine:  prnt.sc/AgeuGYHVO7pb

Finally I checked Front End display for the venue and see just the 3 entries:  prnt.sc/HtETV69lxPtz


So what I was hoping to see for the venue was a full list of dates , 21/8 :26/8 : 31/8 : 06/9 : 31/9 : 30/10 etc.primarily so that anyone who can't make one date knows when the next occurs.

I'll add some more data ASAP and do some more testing.
