Moving from other calendar to JEM, Question data IMPORT
Moving from other calendar to JEM, Question data IMPORT
3 months 4 weeks ago
Dear Community,
I want to switch from the overloaded featured, decreasing support from an other calendar component to JEM. First look it is more clear, not so difficult to handle. But I am searching for a solution to import events from an database, where the calender is shared as ICS-File.
I want to import the ICS-File once a hour with data from central database. Parameter Categories is the Category, Location the place where event happens. Is this possible with JEM, or is there a workarround possible?
I am aware, that a new import of ICS file will delete exisiting records. So I lost hits or other information. But for me it will me more intersting to show events which where stored in an other, central database.
Best regards
Michael

This type of import is not available out of the box, i.e., importing from ICS database to JEM. Furthermore, what you need afterward is event synchronization (new, modified, deleted) to JEM, in order to keep the events updated relative to that database.
What you require is custom development involving several components. It's not just about importing and synchronizing events; categories, locations, and special configurations — such as location seating/registration, also need to be handled.
You can explain more details of process that you need.
I think, It is technically possible, but it is complex and highly specific to your environment. I believe this type of development is not viable within the standard JEM product and community offering. However, it could be implemented as a custom development project through paid professional services with a consulting partner.
If you are interested and have a budget allocated, feel free to contact me privately to discuss automating the process.

Hello, thanks for your response. Currently I have no budget for a custom development project. Perhaps in 2026 or later.
The currently used product works with a batch and import and overwrite complete local event-databasetable with ics-content. Local Updates, Hits and so on will ignored and are lost after drop and import.
I will contact you McKillo, if I get a budget from my organisation.

Data migrations between different structures are not inherently complex if you know how to do them. Ultimately, what I imagine you’re doing is moving data between the two structures, taking care of details/format conversion, and designing a process to automate synchronization.
Written like that, it sounds simple, but in reality, it requires many hours of work behind the scenes.
