As an alternative (even with openstreetmaps, there is Phoca Maps with his plugin. In the backend you can build maps with marker. With the plugin you can insert a map inside of the venue description. You can even choose settings, that you can have a routing to the designed address (the venue).
But the map is not shown in event detail view (there it is suppressed by Joomla rules, I think), so you have to go with the link to the venue detail view and see the map.
If set, you can even print the route.

JEM already shows the map with a marker. When you define a new o edit venues, you can show the map with marker in the specific address. Go to New/edit Venue, check "Add a map link" into Geodata options (right side), find the venue and Save. Now you can see the map with the marker into event view.

Thanks for your explication, but I just knew that.
It's an old discussion: JEM should give an alternative to google maps, for to be less dependent of the Power of google. Google is noot bad, but his monopole can be dangerous! Phoca maps lets switch to openstreetmap. But we have to look for much more possibilities!

OK; Now I understand it, I agree with you.
In that case, the views must integrate the external plugin into its content (view).
In other extensions, there is an option for 'Allow plugin Joomla' into content (JCE, VM, ...) and JEM need to develomep more code to manager it.
