What are the requirements for comments? 7 years 3 weeks ago #22437

I have enabled comments on the backend -> User Control tab. Comments don't work. I cannot seem to find any documentation regarding how to setup comments. So, what am I missing?

Hello Thomsus,

whoever might want to answer to your question would like to know more about your system:
  • version of Joomla!
  • version of JEM
  • which comments extension do you want to use (which version?)
Cheers,
Wolfgang

Aah so I need a comments system? IMHO it would have been nice if this was mentioned in the backend where you enable comments.

I have Kunena Discuss. What comments system are supported/tested?

What happens with comments entered without a comments extension installed?

Joomla is 3.6.2
Jem is 2.1.6

Best regards, Thomsus

As far as I know, currently JComments is the only supported comments extension, see the JEM changelog .

I am not aware of third party extensions that integrate other comments extensions into JEM.

Fortunately I decided to use JComments already from the very beginning. :)

The help just says "...you can use the jem Comments Plugin to show user comments..."
That's only half the needed instructions. It should also state that comments are not built into jem, you have to install jcomments.
At least I didnt't know :)
