possibility for "will not attend"?

How the system is right now, it's a kind of reservation.There are places (sometimes) limited, when all places are reservated, then starts the waitinglist. When someone leaves a reservated place, thensomeone of the waitinglist get this place.
There are Websites which need JEM like that

An other system of "attending, maybe attending and not attending" seems more without engagement.
I fear, both systems can't go together.

But for a group with a defined number of members it would be interesting to know e.g. for a training for all: who will (can) not participate at that training. Normally all member should participate, only those, who can't participate should say it.
I don't know how to develop that. Could there be something lika a switch for each event which says, you have to say, you'll participate, or you have to say, you can't?

Is it maybe possible to add an additional checkbox, next to the register checkbox, that you can configure when you create the event ?

Then you can ask to check that box when you cannot attend the event.

or maybe more extra checkbox that you can configure, where a user can register on.
for example: 'do you bring your own laptop?' or 'do you come to the carpool spot', ...

And show the names of those who checked that checkbox.

Is something like this possible ?

to give some feedback to your questions:

The checkbox "will not attend" itself is not the problem. The problem is to store this information and change all the code so it "understands" some records in attendee table can describe non-attendees.

The other checkboxes with different semantic depending on the event are more complicated. On our website we also need a lot more information from our attendees so we don't use JEM's registration system. Instead we have a dedicated form component and only add a link to the right form in event's description. Adding such flexible functionality to JEM would double JEM's complexity. But a simple text field with free definable label should be no problem. This allows no autiomatically counting, sure, but may help on small groups to easy give additional feedback.
