Show Category is set to off, but still displaying on front end

We don't want to show the category but even though it is set to NO in the settings, the category is still displayed.
this is occurring in teaser, banner and Wide modules
JEM v4.5.0rc4, Joomla v5.4.6

The issue is broader because there is a layout involved with the incident. Everything is now unified and will be included in the next refresh.
