I would like to have the call-to-action of the registration at the top of the event page and can create a button with an anchor link or place the whole registration module at the top, just cannot seem to find the structure of where to add the anchor etc.
Please help out

Hi, make a template override of event/tmpl/default.php.
Then you can change the order of the showed items. I don't know if this will be better. But you can try.

any chance you can answer my other question?
title: check-in functionality
I was wondering if, apart from the options of waiting list, attend or not attend, an admin of an event could use the check-in functionality. Now I just use JEM as a guest-list and if would be great if I could actually strike off the people on the guest-list who really showed up, as in check-them in on site. After the event I could then mail those who really attended and not just those who have set themselves to attending.
Looking forward to hearing if such functionality exists or might be....
