Hi, welcome on this forum, where users try to help other users. Please help us with giving more informations about your issues. We must understand your problem and try to reproduce. I can't reproduce your problem.
Is this on a clean joomla! 3.7.2 with only the official templates (like protostar). Or did you update from an old JEM?
There are meanwhile 2 more security updates and bug fixes from Joomla! (Please update to 3.7.4!) We don't want to find bugs on a unsecure Joomla! We can only help you with the latest version!
What do you mean with "plugin". Joomla makes a difference between the components (like JEM) and the modules and plugins inside of a component (like mod_jem or plg_jem_mailer).
Please discribe your procedure to come on this result!

Hi Jojo,
I will be upgrading Joomla this evening, with regards to plugin, I meant to say the main JEM component, when I try and edit an existing event.

Thank you.

Hi,

just to note: JEM does not use the word "metakey" anywhere. It seems there is a plugin, template or code modification expecting things not there.
I think it's a plugin reacting on onContentBeforeSave
