Hi, welcome on this forum where users try to help users. You can help too.
I think you are talking about the calendar view of the JEM extension and not the calendar module (we make a difference between module and view.)
For the colors you go to the calendar menu settings and choose what you want.
The width depends of your template, but perhaps you can try to find e.g. with firebug addon on firefox if you can change something.

sorry it's my fault: you're really using the module, which is thought for a module position. There is only the indication, if there is an event on which days,
Open a new menu in joomla and choose JEM calendar (there are different ones, a calendar for all, a calendar for categories, a calendar for venues or a weekcalendar. Normally take the normal calendar.
Then there are settings inside of this menu, where you can choose the colors etc.
